COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) --- A West Point couple was killed instantly about 1 p.m. Tuesday when their car was struck by a Norfolk & Western railroad passenger train. The crash occurred at a crossing in Tippecanoe County, about 10 miles southwest of Lafayette. Dead are Fred H. Freed, 77, and his wife, Sylvia, 75, of West Point Route 1. He was a retire farmer. Investigating state troopers reported that Freed drove in front of the train at an unguarded crossing which has clear vision for a mile. The train was bound from Detroit to St. Louis and dragged the auto more than 1,800 ft. The car was demolished. The bodies are at the Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette. Arrangements are pending.  --typed by Walt W
